Position Summary:   

F.N. Smith Corporation is seeking an individual who is a highly-motivated, critical thinker to be part of our team. As a Mechanical Technician your responsibilities will range from the assembly of custom machinery for customers to the maintenance and continual improvement of in-house equipment and facilities.


The Mechanical Technician must be able to read manufacturing and engineering drawings, have knowledge and experience with metals and industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment, and the ability to make parts for machines to be built from scratch. This requires ingenuity, creativity, and engineering skills as well as expertise in machine construction to complete projects. The Mechanical Technician must be able to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and develop plans for improved processes and product flow.

 

Essential Job Functions: 

Assemble mechanical devices including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems

Test, troubleshoot, and inspect assembled products for defects

Complete paperwork such as work orders, forms and checklists associated with assembly of device

Improve overall facility safety

Understanding of facility layouts and utilities

Read and interpret process documentation, drawings, prints, diagrams, and/or schematics

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed

 

Education / Experience:

7 – 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, machine building, or maintenance functions

Working knowledge of equipment for food manufacturing preferred

Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills with an acute attention to detail

Ability to understand blueprints and product drawings

Strong critical thinking skills, must work cooperatively within company

Must be results driven, self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to work in a wide range of software programs that support our business (MS Office Suite, CAD/ CAM Packages, ERP and CRM systems, etc.)
